Early Life and Career Beginnings

Danielle grew up in Westchester Country alongside a younger sister. When she was 10 years old, her family moved to Richmond, Indiana and later to Carmel due to the family business. She attended Carmel High School and during her time there, developed an interest in broadcasting as she worked for the school’s 24-hour local channel as both a host as well as a reporter. She was also highly active in sports, competing in three state swimming and diving championships.

After matriculating, she tried her hand at four different colleges along the East Coast before settling at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, from which she graduated with a degree in Mass Journalism. During her time there, she did internships with television stations in Indianapolis and Charlotte, including WBTV. After graduating, she was hired as a weekend news editor for WBTV, and also did photography work. She later convinced management to give her a chance in front of the camera, and in 2007, she made her on-screen debut hosting programs such as “Sports Saturday Night” and “The Point After with D&D”.

Rise in Sports Broadcasting

In 2006, Trotta moved to the station’s sports department, as she enjoyed covering sports related stories, particularly about high school athletes overcoming challenges both on and off the field. She stayed with WBTV until 2010, winning a Radio Television Digital News Association of the Carolinas Award, before deciding to move to Fox Sports. She then worked with the ACC Network’s pre-game and half-time show entitled “The ACC Blizz”.

In 2011, Trotta started writing football columns for the newspaper “Charlotte Weekly”, and was also a weekly contributor at the radio station ESPN 730, being heard covering various NASCAR and ACC Football shows, working closely with Steve Byrnes who would become her mentor. The following year, she became the co-host of the Speed’s coverage of the NASCAR Sprint Awards Ceremony held in Las Vegas, which led to her continuing having NASCAR-related work, and covering MotoGP and Supercross events over the next few years. In 2015, she became the host of the Xfinity Series races “NASCAR RaceDay”.

Departure and Later Work

Around the same time as hosting “NASCAR RaceDay”, Danielle also made her debut as a sideline reporter for Fox NFL. She stayed in the same capacity for two years until publicly announcing that she was leaving “NASCAR Race Hub” and Fox Sports to pursue other opportunities; she was replaced by Shannon Spake. Shortly after leaving, she started working with the radio station Sirius XM, covering auto racing events. She later mentioned that she is thankful to Fox for helping her pursue new opportunities, and she’s excited to continue developing her career with new challenges. She also started working with NBC Sports Boston.

Personal Life and Social Media

For her personal life, it is known that Trotta is engaged to Robby Benton who was the previous co-owner of the professional stock car racing team RAB Racing, which won one race in the Xfinity Series, however, during his tenure there, the group was never able to qualify for a Cup Series race. He later joined Team Penske as a NASCAR team manager. According to reports, he proposed to Danielle at the Cathedral of Monaco in 2016.

Similar to numerous sports journalists, Danielle is highly active on-line through social media accounts, associated with Twitter, Instagram and Facebook. She mainly promotes her recent work and projects, including her broadcasts with NBC Sports Boston, and also updates her followers on the latest NASCAR news. Her Instagram account is filled with numerous pictures of her alongside co-workers and friends; she can also be seen attending sports events and taking pictures of her dog. Her Facebook page is the least active of her accounts, having last posted in early 2017. There has been no update from that account of hers since leaving Fox Sports, and posting thank you messages to her fans.
