Booker was born to Carolyn and Cary Booker, both first black executives of the IBM computer company, on April 27, 1969, in Washington, D.C. He was raised at a young age in Newark, New Jersey, and attended Northern Valley Regional High School at Old Tappan.

He earned a football scholarship to the University of Stanford after graduating from Northern Valley Regional High School in Old Tappan, NJ, in 1987.
